"Blessed are the poor in spirit: For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven".
This verse is the first of nine statements (a.k.a The Beatitudes) made by Jesus Christ. Each, except for the last, follows the same pattern of a naming group of people and their corresponding rewards. Luke 6:20 reads "blessed are the poor" but Matthew adds "in spirit".
